Yolo County man ripped off landlord for $13,000

ASSOCIATED PRESS

10:38 a.m. October 7, 2008

WOODLAND – A Yolo County jury has convicted a 58-year-old man of stealing $13,000 from his landlord.

Jurors found Richard Esquivel guilty Monday of theft from an elder and fraudulent use of a credit card. He faces up to four years in prison.

Prosecutors say Esquivel admitted using his 71-year-old landlord's ATM check card to withdraw cash and make online purchases of movies, flowers, cigars and presents over a six-month period. The fraud occurred four years ago while Esquivel was renting a room from the victim in Clarksburg, a delta town south of Sacramento.
