SACRAMENTO – Two Sacramento street racers have been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading no contest to vehicular manslaughter chargers in the death of a 16-year-old pedestrian.
Kalvin Williams Jr. was killed on Feb. 11, 2007 when he was hit by a car driven by 21-year-old Vinit Singh.
Singh had lost control of his modified BMW on a curve as he raced with another driver, 26-year-old Daniel Selba.
Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Orr said Friday the two drivers “let testosterone take over” when Selba challenged Singh to race. He said they were lucky to be alive.
Williams' mother, Marian Van Hook, called the sentences a “slap on the wrist” that wouldn't discourage street racing.
