2 dead in Nacimiento water pipeline accident

ASSOCIATED PRESS

5:16 a.m. October 3, 2008

PASO ROBLES – Two construction workers have died in a Paso Robles trench when an apparent water main rupture filled the hole and washed them into a pipeline them were installing.

The men were part of a crew installing an approximately 3-foot diameter Nacimiento Water Project pipeline in a 10-foot trench at the intersection of Niblick and South River roads on Thursday night.

Fire Chief Ken Johnson says firefighters arrived at about 9 p.m. and found the trench filled with water, apparently from a water main break.

The force of the water carried the two men into the pipe, where their bodies were found at about 11 p.m.

The names of the men haven't been disclosed.
