Candidates, propositions to be focus of four forums

Several forums are scheduled in East County next week to educate voters about political candidates and propositions on the Nov. 4 ballot.

On Monday, candidates for the Grossmont Union High School District board will appear at a 7:30 p.m. forum at the Grossmont Health Care Center auditorium, 9001 Wakarusa St., La Mesa. Five candidates are running for two seats on the board.

On Tuesday, candidates for the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District board will appear at a 7:30 p.m. forum at the Grossmont Health Care Center auditorium. Four candidates are running for two seats on the board.

That same evening, another forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Summit Unitarian Universalist Church, 8778 Cottonwood Ave., Santee, to discuss the pros and cons of the ballot propositions.

On Thursday, a forum of candidates for the El Cajon City Council will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Grossmont Health Care Center auditorium. Eleven candidates are running for three council seats.

The forums are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of East San Diego County and the American Association of University Women of La Mesa-El Cajon.

Flu-shot clinic scheduled at retirement community

EL CAJON: A flu vaccination clinic will be held Friday at the Springs of El Cajon, a retirement community at 444 Prescott Ave., El Cajon.

The clinic is open to all adults. Flu shots cost $30 each, and pneumonia shots cost $45. Medicare Part B and some insurance policies could cover part of the costs. Those intending to attend the clinic should contact their insurance carriers for details.

Former city fire station going on auction block

EL CAJON: Want to own your very own fire station? The city of El Cajon is selling one of its former fire stations to the highest bidder.

The auction for former Fire Station 8, at 842 N. Third St., El Cajon, will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 at the fire station. The minimum bid is $185,000, and anyone wishing to bid must deposit $18,500 with the city clerk before the auction.
