Youth cross country

The city of Oceanside is accepting registration for a youth cross country race Saturday at Melba Bishop Park. Races for ages 7 to 12 are age-separated for boys and girls. All runners receive awards, and the top three finishers in each race will receive medals.

The first race will begin at 9 a.m., and the last will start at 12:20 p.m. All start times are approximate and subject to change.

Participants are being asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before race time to allow for check-in, stretching and warm-ups. Children should wear running shoes, shorts and T-shirts. The cost is $5.

There will be no day-of-race registration. Register online at www.ci.oceanside.ca.us or call the Oceanside Recreation Sports Office at (760) 435-5233.

Little League sign-ups

Sign-ups begin soon for the 2008 Oceanside Valley Little League season at the Melba Bishop Recreation Center (North River Park), 5306 N. River Road in Oceanside.

There are three times to register: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17 ($10 early bird discount); 9 a.m to noon Dec. 8; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 5.

Carlsbad basketball camp

The Carlsbad Recreation Department is offering a Basketball 101 youth day camp during the fall school recess, Nov. 19-21. This three-day camp is for children ages 7 to 14 and is designed to introduce the fundamentals of the sport to beginners and refine the skills of advanced players.

Space is limited. Cost is $75 for Carlsbad residents and $85 for nonresidents. Call (760) 434-2971.

Coed flag football

The Boys & Girls Club of Vista is starting a new coed flag football program, funded by a grant from the NFL Youth Football Fund. Participation is free with club membership of $50 a year.
