ESCONDIDO: A 3-year-old boy was injured in a crash Sunday morning when his mother lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a light pole, police said.
The boy suffered head injuries but his condition is not considered to be life-threatening. The boy was not wearing a seat belt and was not seated in a car child-safety seat, Escondido police said.
The boy's mother was driving the boy and her two teenage daughters east, out of the Northgate Market lot, on Washington Avenue near Escondido Boulevard, about 8:25 a.m. when she accelerated too fast and lost control of her sports utility vehicle, police said.
The mother complained of pain to her back. Her two teenage daughters were not hurt. Police said paramedics drove the boy with his mother to a hospital. The boy later was transferred to Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego.
Police said the cause of the crash, and the child's seating, is under investigation. Authorities ask that any witnesses call police at (760) 839-4722.
