SAN DIEGO – A woman killed in a collision in Escondido last week has been identified as Shawn Lynn McFate of Escondido, the Medical Examiner's Office said Monday.
McFate, 55, was driving a Volkswagen Beetle modified for off-road use south on Vista Verde Way about 4 p.m. Friday when she collided with a Chevy Avalanche heading west at El Norte Parkway, Escondido police said.
McFate suffered major injuries and died about 6 p.m. at a hospital.
The Escondido man driving the pickup was unhurt. A woman from Valley Center riding with him was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash and asked anyone who might have information to called Escondido police at (760) 839-4722.
