MINNEAPOLIS – Regional carrier Sun Country Airlines is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, blaming legal troubles from a fraud investigation of its parent company Petters Group Worldwide.
The privately held airline said Monday it will continue its normal schedule as it reorganizes.
“We were forced to take this action as a result of recent events at Petters Group Worldwide,” Chairman and Chief Executive Stan Gadek said in a statement.
Petters Group founder Tom Petters has been charged in what authorities say was a scheme to defraud investors of millions.
The filing is for Petters Aviation and its subsidiaries, including MN Airlines Inc., which does business as Sun Country Airlines.
